Recorded live at a secret location in Galway, this mix is a showcase of some fine rolling warehouse techno, brought to you courtesy of a steadfast member of the 091 crew - Lynam. Starting in 2001 in De Burgos, it seems like 091 has always had a place in the heart of Galway’s underground life. Having sold their souls to house and techno since as long as they can remember, the guys rocked out in the GPO, the Vic, the Cellar Underground and these days can be seen behind the bar at their own pub - the Bierhaus in Galway’s west end. As well as our mixmeister for this evening, the 091 crew consists of original ravers Tiddlerz and Frenchie, plus the international crew of Audiofeen (Australia), Jasinski (Poland) and H-Tenza (France) plus the one and only sound & light man (and LowerState man behind a hazy cloud of smoke) - Pete T. And you!

Well it’s with great pleasure we bring you September’s podcast by Cian Ó Cíobháin, the long standing host of An Taobh Tuathail on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta/ANOCHT FM since May 1999. One of the very few outlets for underground music on Irish radio, Cian draws from reflective electronica, dream-pop, alt-folk, post-rock, soundtracks and ambient recordings to electronic dancefloor music of the house and techno variety every weeknight. This mix is made up of nine meticulously selected electronic 4-4 tracks, seamlessly blended with enough space between sounds to make you listen a little harder to the subtle variations and moments crafted in each production. As the mix unfolds, each track acts as a bridge on a lush soundscape - with tiny surprises becoming big moments. As the mix comes to its finalé, one can’t help but feel a little lighter off the ground.

Our latest musical installment is our first from a US guest, Jenifa Mayanja. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Jenifa has released some incredibly fine cuts over the last few years on her own Bu-Maku label. Her music, while deep and refined, borders on the ethereal and imbues a greatly desired quality - to transport you to the outer regions. Her remix of Nina Kraviz’s Voices being a firm fixture in this DJ’s bag. Aside from producing, she also presents the Bu-Mako Experience radio show on Motion FM every Friday at 7pm Irish/UK time - check out their website for the show archives.

Arriving for LowerState on Sat Aug 14th, Kassem Mosse tows his machines all the way from Leipzig for his irish debut with a cutting edge live set. One of the most enigmatic producers around, creating a unique, uncharacterisable, time-warped sound, he jams live with drummachines and synthesizers, programming and mixing patterns on the spot to showcase the narcotic womp of low BPM deep house vs. pop ambient vs. micro techno.
Kassem followed his first Workshop 03 EP in 2007 with the timeless Workshop 08 which many people hailed as record of 2009 by topping a number of end of year charts. After which came a record on Omar S’s FXHE label, and his new Laid EP (with Lowtec) is set to be one of the records of 2010, with deep muted synth lines and low slung bass bringing a unique futurism and deepness which we will all get to experience first hand during his live show this August 14th.
Needless to say, we are super excited to host the amazing Kassem, and on our top notch Funktion 1 soundsystem this will be a really excited way to finish up LowerState’s summer.
He has featured on mix CDs from Tama Sumo (Panorama Bar 02), Cassy (Cocoon mix), Ellen Allien (Boogybytes Vol 4) and Damian Lazarus (Sci Fi Lo fi Vol 2) and his productions have been supported by Marcel Dettmann, Redshape, Norman Nodge, XDB, Move D, Ame, K-soul, Lerosa, Andy Stott, Ripperton and Peter van Hoesen among others.
LowerState started out as a simple idea between two friends and music lovers - to bring quality electronic music to Galway city, trying not to lose too much money in the process. Four years of international guests and countless raise-the-roof moments later, the club grew into one of Galway's most established nights. A balanced musical line between well-known classics and back-of-the-crate platters was kept, yet the sound always moved forward joining the dots between the deepest house and techno. Originally based in the old-school Spanish wine cellar De Burgo's, the night found a new home in 2009 at the appropiately named Deeper - another basement perfect for the trademark up-close-and-personal parties. The night currently is hibernating, but the blog lives on....
