Recognised as one of the best deep-house DJs in the world today, and one of the most accomplished producers, Move D (David Moufang) brings his bag of tricks to LowerState on Sat Sept 19th.

Move D - Honey [Smallville]

Many will remember 2008 as Moufang’s year. His album Songs From the Beehive (a collaboration with Benjamin Brunn) received 2nd best album of the year on Resident Advisor, coming ahead of Flying Lotus and Hercules & Love Affair. It’s a work which draws you into its own soundscape, one that melds solid beats and liquid atmospheres into a musical substance that’s soothing and yielding, but yet complex. Aside from churning out some of the best deep-house EPs in ‘08 (Quit Quittin/Drone/Honey) on A-list labels like SmallVille, Workshop, Running Back, City Centre Offices, Four:Twenty and Simple, winning Beatport’s Deep-House Artist of the Year award, and with live performances on a par with (if not superior to) his studio work, he is world-renowned and highly in demand as a DJ, regularly on the roster of Cube, Warehouse Project and Fabric. He even made RA’s top 100 DJs of 2008, coming a not too shabby 23rd and beating the likes of Erol Alkan, Steve Bug and Claude VonStroke in the vote. Well known as a vinyl DJ, it seems a big part of what D insists on is not just the physicality of records, but the way vinyl, as an instrument and a physical object, makes you move when you move it, and as it’s moving. That’s the “move” in Move D, and it’s something that keeps Moufang coming back to the groove: “The groove is fundamental for dancing. But also, your entire body and biorhythms are a matter of groove. Of course, there are trends and fashions, but essentially a groove is a groove and will be a groove”. D is for deep, but his music? That’s for moving to.

Move D - Cube [Running Back]

He is joined on the night by a live set from LowerState’s J-Me (the artist formerly known as Audiofeen) and a Dj set from new recruit Tomas. Admission is €13 and doors are at 10.30. Concessions will be available from our Facebook page.

Yapacc _live_ (Perlon/Triebstoff/WIR) this Saturday!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Sat Aug 22nd sees us welcome back a guest for the very first time - Berliner YAPACC. Having been in the production game since 1997 under various guises and pseudonyms, his body of work spans many labels and sounds, with releases on the heavily respected vinyl-only Perlon, Lessizmore, We in Rhythm (WIR), Trapez and Treibstoff labels. He has taken part at Brain Eno’s Quiet Club at Luminale Frankfurt, toured Japan with Franklin de Costa (Curlé Records - on which Efdemin has released), his solo releases have been played by Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Vath, Dominik Eulberg and Jeff Samuel and he has remixed Lemos (one of our favourite artists), Daso and Ricardo Villalobos (quite an honour). In 2008 Yapacc produced all the tracks for the MRI revival, which even resulted in one of his tracks appearing on Buzzin’ Fly’s Chaos Restored mix CD by Justin Martin. No stranger to the underground scene, he has played Fabric London, Panorama Bar, Club der Visionare and Golden Gate Berlin, Rex Club Paris and from Moscow to Mexico.

His last visit to the Irish underground was for De Burgo’s last year, in which he impressed with a refined melodic and funky tech-house set for LowerState. His minimal funk and melodic techno sound is so heavily unique, it will prove quite an uplifting treat for anyone who makes it down to the night. Doors open at 10.30pm, with LowerState resident Ruari and newcomer Tomas making his debut and hoping to impress. Expect an untempo warmup as LowerState recently closed the Airbound festival in Petrcane, Croatia, which was run by Bodytonic and Nightflight. Admission is €10, and concessions will be available from the mailing-list.

A wonderful few days in Croatia dancing and partying the night away. Makes you realise how alive the Irish scene is. Big ups to all the Nightflight and Bodytonic crews for having us, to all the Galway heads who made it out to hear us play (Alan, Barry, Eoin, Ferg, Roisin and many more) and to all our mates Mano+Mark, Chymera (who played an amazing set)+Michelle, P Disconaut and Ger Z (who aren’t a couple, but Ger gets a gold star for staying up to hear us play), the main man himself D.Dineen for as always broadening our horizons and traveling groupies Agneta, Celine and Siof.

And thanks to my ever so sweet talking, we even managed to score a courtyard gig in Split, where Mike played live and I DJed (using Live as they had no decks). They put us down as “Ho’s Music” on the poster, which we all found ridiculously funny. They then put a big sticker saying ‘House’ over it, which made us a little sad.

And yes, we are all back a few days and have headcolds already.
