Dublin and back again

Had quite a nice weekend in Dublin last weekend. Ended up out partying with the Nightflight crew in the Button Factory on Friday night, loved the sets from them Matt, Sol, Galway’s new friend Mano and the man himself Lil Dave, and had a great night. Hit up the Twisted Pepper the following night for Mr. Buzzin’ Fly himself Ben Watt. Wasn’t all that impressed with his track selection to be honest, quite predicable in fact. However it was very cool to check out the Twisted Pepper, the lads have done a great job with the place. Stripped down layout and the sound system is, well as you’d expect, fantastic. Hats off to Galway’s Gerard Lally for the lighting system. Simple and very very effective.

On Sunday got a chance to pop down to City Discs and give all those “Vinyl is dead!” proclaimers a chance to give out to me yet again by buying plenty of new slabs. Highlights include Ben Klock’s new album, the new Mountains album (Choral) and my mate Luke’s (a.k.a Lukid from London) The Now EP from 2007. The awesome guy who works there (one of these days I should really ask his name) had the new Laurent Garnier album - Tales of a Kleptomaniac - on the spinner. Eagerly awaiting May 11th for that. And also the DJ Koze RA Podcast was beaming out - highly recommended listening. Koze plays room 2 at Fabric on May 2nd for the Kompakt label night, along with the Wighnomy Bros (here’s a top notch Wighnomy set from Bucharest earlier this month).  Think it’s time for a some eccentric DJ sets.

There’s a wonderful new Efdemin mix up by those lovely people at Little White Earbuds. The mix nears its endpoint with a monster Minilogue remix of LowerState friend Sian’s new release on Aus. Watch out for Efdemin playing LowerState at the end of the Arts Festival.

Oh and finally, spent Good Friday smoking the good stuff and watching the Minilogue - Animals DVD. It was my second viewing, and proved infinitely more fun than the first (probably due to the aforementioned good stuff).

[...] Wighnomy’s were pulling out some great tunes by this stage back in Room 2. I posted a link to their Bucharest mix recently, and the set was quite similar, which is definitely not a bad thing. The Obama vocal was there, [...]
