On Friday August 1st, we continue our series of live music shows with a performance from the Berlin based electronic music producer - PANTHA DU PRINCE - at De Burgo’s. Melodic experimental techno meets Detroit house meets melancholic moodiness - this is a very rare opportunity to catch one of the finest electronic producers of recent years in the Galway underground.
Affiliated with Hamburg’s Dial Music label, PanthaDuPrince (aka Hendrik Weber), creates beautiful and blissfully disturbing minimal techno for an audience of soul searching party-goers. Praised by electronic music legends Michael Mayer (Kompakt), Richie Hawtin (Minus), Martin L.Gore (Depeche Mode) and Sascha Funke (BPitch Control), his driving and euphoric live sets wander between the Avant-garde and the rush and excitement of the dance floor.
After a debut album “Diamond Daze” in 2003, remixes for Depeche Mode, Animal Collective and Raz O´Hara (Apparat Band) came his 2007 big release - “This Bliss” - a record that exists at both the heart and at the boundaries of house and techno music. Weber deliberately employs ambiguity to blur the edges of technology and communication, thus keeping the heart of “This Bliss” constantly in motion. Reluctant to fulfill expectations for instant excitement, it is all about this sudden un-programmed bliss, about existing in the musical moment - something Marx would call the “Kingdom of Freedom”. We defy you not to be seduced…
This track (the first on The Bliss) is 6 and a half minutes of electronic music at it’s finest.
Doors are €12 and open at 10pm with LowerState’s RoryD dropping purely electronic warmup beats.
LowerState started out as a simple idea between two friends and music lovers - to bring quality electronic music to Galway city, trying not to lose too much money in the process. Four years of international guests and countless raise-the-roof moments later, the club grew into one of Galway's most established nights. A balanced musical line between well-known classics and back-of-the-crate platters was kept, yet the sound always moved forward joining the dots between the deepest house and techno. Originally based in the old-school Spanish wine cellar De Burgo's, the night found a new home in 2009 at the appropiately named Deeper - another basement perfect for the trademark up-close-and-personal parties. The night currently is hibernating, but the blog lives on....
